Edmonton 2005 Competition & Convention
September's Update from The Committee Chairman

As this latest issue of your Canadian Association magazine arrives at your door, there will be barely a month left before the 2005 Competition and Convention gets underway in Edmonton at the Mayfield Inn Hotel and Trade Centre on October 26th thru 29th, 2005. A great lineup of speakers covering Internet marketing, real estate auctions, maximizing your print ad dollars, and entrepreneur business development will provide a wide range of ideas and methods to get the most out of your business in the future. There is surely a topic for everyone that makes the event this year.

An addition to the program lineup since the last issue is the Alberta Auctions 101 & 201 courses to be held in two half day sessions on Wednesday, October 26th. Those in the Alberta association know the courses are mandatory for Alberta Auctioneers that receive their bonding through the Alberta Association, and many have already taken the course in recent months. For those unaware of the course content, it can best be described as a full day of comprehensive auction business information which all owners and businesses think they know, but will be surprised to learn. The format and content are a new method to get this information to all auction businesses, and I strongly encourage you to read up a little more on the program later in this magazine and you will see the benefits for you to attend the sessions regardless of which Canadian province you hail from. The $150 cost of the full sessions is a small price for the value of information you will be exposed to.

Social aspects are also finalized. The Mayfield Inn includes a live stage dinner show each night at their facility featuring a Sherlock Holmes play that by late October will be winding up an already successful run in Edmonton. The Mayfield Inn is minutes away from West Edmonton Mall, two large Casino facilities, numerous restaurants and nite spots, and is home to restaurants, a lounge and sports facilities. The Mayfield and the area offer a wide range of options for all of your family so bring them along for the trip.

In other preparations, the Edmonton Auction firm of Foothills Equipment Liquidation Co. led by Brad Neil has stepped in to manage all aspects of the Competition day sale event and we certainly thank him and his staff in advance for the excellent show that will be. A full slate of competitors is expected based on the strong interest and signups to date, so if you are considering entering the competition (as you all should be) you should send in your application as soon as possible to confirm your spot.

And don't forget that hotel booking. The Mayfield has informed us that rooms blocked for this event are now in limited supply and we are facing the possibility that rooms may not be available for last minute bookings. It is a great facility, and those coming to Edmonton for the convention really wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Convention events, the all day Competition Auction, and every social and business gathering are all at this facility so it is the place to be in order to get the best out of attending this years show.

Registration Forms for the convention and the competition are in this issue. Fill them out today to get booked into an event you simply can't miss. I look forwards to seeing you ALL, at the 2005 Auctioneers Association of Canada Convention and Competition in Edmonton.

Mark Cunningham,
2005 Competition and Convention Chairman
